Labelled as one out of the four most valued tournaments in professional golf, the U.S Masters has been played every April since 1934. The tournament was founded by at-the-time amateur champion and lawyer by profession Bobby Jones, who is now labelled as one of the greatest figures in the history of professional golf.
Last year’s U.S Masters tournament was won by Sergio Garcia, which was his first Master’s victory. He managed to win the tournament after having a sudden death playoff with Justin Rose after both players completed the course in nine-under-par. The record for the most U.S Masters victories is a title currently held by Jack Nicklaus, who manage to win the tournament an impressive six times throughout his golfing career. Who will be the next golfer to smash this record out of the water? Only time will tell.
The U.S Masters has a rich history that is centred around several traditions. In 1949, the infamous green jacket that’s awarded to the winner was first introduced. It was also in 1952 that the prestigious champions dinner started – this now happens every Tuesday before each tournament and is only open to past champions and board members. Another tradition first appeared in 1963, where a legendary golfer or previous Masters champion is given the honour of taking the first tee shot to commence the start of the tournament.
